Stranded Americans cry out for help to their govenment

Good morning, Mr. Finnegan and USSD Team,

Following up on this issue of the stamped passports, on behalf of each of our passengers who were scheduled for the humanitarian flight that the US blocked.

Can you please update us (and even more important, them) ASAP on what the Peruvian authorities said when you reached out to them 4 days ago?

Additionally, can you please explain why the US State Department, or any branch of the federal government, is denying Americans a FREE, desperately needed flight home to the US?

Once again, WAR will offer the same assistance we have been offering since March 21st: we can organize an additional flight for $150+ Americans, to assist in your efforts to repatriate the thousands stranded in Peru. As you know, this flight is 100% funded by donations, it would cost $0 to the passengers, and it would cost $0 to the American taxpayer.

What is your reason for blocking this flight?

Are you comfortable with the fact that our fellow Americans have already died waiting for a repatriation flight they can afford? Just two days ago, the grandfather of one of our passengers passed away from a preventable heart attack, because he ran out of his medications long ago. As you know, other Americans have died preventable deaths either because they couldn't afford a $2000 seat, or because they never heard back from their US Embassy.

Please reconsider allowing this flight to proceed (already greenlit by Peru and LATAM), so that at least the most vulnerable Americans are able to return to their homes and their jobs and their children.

Under separate cover I will send you some of the stories of these Americans who are desperate to go home, after 8 weeks of being ignored by their federal government. I urge you to read through them, and see this not as a money-making venture, but as the humanitarian crisis that it is.

Yes, the WAR flight that was scheduled (and confirmed) for 30 APR 2020 was very regrettably canceled at the very last minute by LATAM, in spite of the fact that I successfully sent the payment in full to LATAM via *same-day* international wire transfer, as requested.

Thanks to LATAM’s unprofessional and cruel decision, as well as the contrived delays caused by USSD, the flight had to be rescheduled for a later date. I have already forwarded the revised DGAC Form to Judith and Ryan as well as to the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A Peruvian doctor took x rays and said the infection will keep spreading unless she the infected nerves removed. She is also running low on her other medications.

Initial AA flight out of Cuzco on 4/27 was cancelled; Only Lima to US flights rescheduled to late evening 5/10, but that is planned quarantine lift date, (if not extended); no AA flights from Cuzco to Lima as American Airline agreement with Latania(?) expired March 30 (Delta has agreement now, but not seeing any flights). My American Airline 5/10 late evening flight from Lima to US (and on to VA) are paid for, IF restrictions get lifted starting 5/10 and i can get a flight to Lima from Cuzco early on the 10th. American can/should adjust flight dates if quarantine not lifted, but Cuzco to Lima is still an unknown for me. Embassy has slow response and their contracted airline if charging over $2000 just to get me to Miami. Will leave earlier if possible, but will need enough notice to get from Huyro farm back to Cuzco (4 hours by car), collect my stored belongings in Cuzco, in time for first flight leg to Lima. May be able to stay a night in Cuzco where belongings are stored. Traveling with another med student from California (Spencer Lyon) if you link us as a party to get to Lima... and beyond if my AA flights get cancelled again and i need help from there. We arrived separately but we will travel together to expedite us both returning.
